External Job Description:

The Distillery Operator works across a range of hazardous areas on site through various shifts, performing a number of different tasks. Whilst there is a high level of automation in most areas, as there is lone working involved, the Distillery Operator is required to prioritise safe working practices at all times.

Currently approximately half the incumbent’s time in role will be spent monitoring the Fermentation/Distillation process, with the remaining time being devoted to working in the Bonds/Blending areas and other tasks as directed. The time spent in any particular area will be subject to change with business needs.

Purpose of Role:

The Distillery Operator primary role is to monitor the Fermentation/Distillation processes as well as the ancillary equipment associated with those processes on the Bundaberg Distilling Company Site. The incumbent will also be required to work within the Bonds/Blending area, transferring alcohol around the site, monitoring inventory and blending/filtering rum.

The Distillery Operator is also required to perform supplemental tasks in other areas of the Site. Examples include, but are not limited to; general cleaning, watch person tasks, general site maintenance (e.g. gardening/mowing), Single head filler bottling operations, Bottling Operations, quality analysis.

The role will be required to work on a rotating shift roster to cover 24/7 operations.

  • Monitor the Fermentation/Distillation process, performing analysis, recording results and taking action as required to keep the processes within intended control parameters.

  • Work safely and follow SOP’s and WI as trained.

  • Work as directed to perform supplementary tasks within your abilities as instructed by your line manager.

  • Maintain your work areas in a clean, tidy, organised condition (GMP, 5S)

  • Transfer of alcohol site wide and to bulk tankers.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Knowledge of Fermentation/Distillation Operation or the demonstrated aptitude/ability to quickly acquire this knowledge under supervised training.

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc)

Highly Regarded;

  • IBD Qualification in Distilling or Packaging

  • Forklift Ticket

  • Degree/Diploma in relevant discipline

  • Mechanical or Electrical Trade

  • Knowledge of and experience working in and around hazardous areas
