About the opportunity

The highly respected Jacobs Surface Water team deliverscomplex and technically challenging local and national projects to a wide rangeof clients. These projects occur across awide range of management, infrastructure, and development activities for ourclients that include federal, state and local government, utilities, andtransport providers. Our team contributes to a range of projects, fromlarge-scale alliances through to smaller discrete projects for specificclients. Services include flood modelling,mapping and risk assessment, urban and rural hydrology, dam break failure andconsequence modelling, floodplain management, drought management planning,environmental flows assessments, and water supply system yield and optimisation.

Due to continued growth in the Surface Water business, weare seeking to appoint an experienced Hydrologist to join our Melbourne team. In this role you will work closely with SurfaceWater team members and other colleagues across our business. This will include liaisingwith team members in ecology, groundwater, environmental planning andmanagement, project management, economics and strategic consulting,geotechnical and scientific services, and water and transport engineeringservices.

The role is based in Melbourne, but will involve regionaland interstate collaboration at times as we deliver our services as part of anational team. The role will involve the following:

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the hydrology componentof projects (including large infrastructure projects) through technical inputs,project management, client communication and technical review

  • Development of new and innovative approaches to solvecomplex water issues

  • Contributing to developing Jacobs flood modelling businessin Victoria

  • Providing technical leadership in hydrology to the team

  • Assuming responsibility for management of small to mediumscale projects. This will include cost estimates, tender submissions, technicaldocumentation, and project scheduling and meeting deadlines and budgets

  • Maintaining appropriate systems and procedures to ensurereliability, viability and auditability of modelling tasks

  • Assisting in training and mentoring of graduates

  • Fostering and maintaining good client relationships

About you

We are seeking a candidate with a degree in a field relevantof Water Engineering, and at least 7 years’ experience working as aprofessional practitioner. A relevantpostgraduate degree would be highly regarded as would previous consultingexperience. A high level of experiencein the areas of flood hydrology and hydraulic modelling is essential. In particular, candidates should haveexperience with at least some of the following: flood hydrologic modellingsoftware (e.g. RORB, RAFTS, URBS), advanced statistical analysis, floodfrequency analysis, open channel and piped drainage modelling, 1D and 2D floodmodelling using hydraulic modelling software (e.g. TUFLOW, DHI software, HECRAS). Experience with continuous hydrologicmodelling software and coding would also be highly regarded. The candidate shouldalso be familiar with the recent updates to Australian Rainfall and Runoffincluding Monte Carlo simulation.

Our ideal candidate will have a self-motivated working stylewith an ability to work independently, but also able to work collaborativelywithin a team. They will also have soundanalytical ability, excellent written and presentation skills, and provenproject management skills.
