An opportunity has arisen in Tax & Accounting Finance team based in in Australia. The role will be responsible for providing support to the Tax & Accounting business in Australia & New Zealand (ANZ).

Tax & Accounting ANZ has revenues of $30m across four segments (Corporate, Professional, Knowledge Solutions and Government) providing software and information solutions to tax & accounting professionals and employs over 130 staff. The Director of Finance, Tax & Accounting ANZ will act as the business partner to the MD Tax & Accounting ANZ to meet sales, revenue and expense targets and deliver business objectives. The role includes management of a team of 5 finance staff

Role Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all decision support and commercial finance activities for the Tax & Accounting business in Australia & New Zealand working closely with the local business leads. This will include deal commercials, setting sales targets, commission scheme planning (in partnership with Sales), production of business cases, sales and marketing effectiveness and productivity analysis, efficiency planning, programme support, product migrations and obsolescences & other ad-hoc projects as required. You will have substantial involvement in and responsibility for building long term business models, forecasting, the annual budget & plan process, and other monthly reporting presentations.

  • Responsible for Sales & Revenue reporting and forecasting for Tax & Accounting ANZ working with the UK based FP&A and US based Segment finance teams as needed. This will include sales & revenue reporting and forecasting, pipeline forecasting and analysis, sales to revenue reconciliations and definition (the In-The-Bag process), reporting & analysis of sales metrics and other KPIs as required.

  • Provide analysis and leadership to ensure that we use pricing to our best advantage to drive revenue and profit working where necessary with the Segment and Commercial Policy teams on the development and implementation of new commercial standards and pricing strategies, this will include maximizing our new sales, uplift and retention rates.

  • Responsible for all Cost & Headcount / Resource reporting, forecasting & commentary analysis for Tax & Accounting ANZ business working closely with the relevant HR Business partner(s), Enterprise Technology, Segment and Legal finance teams as required. [There are approximately 130 FTEs across the organisation.]

  • Responsible for forecasting capital requirements, including the identification and analysis of content & product development and operations activities & projects and their capitalization treatment. You will help the organization make capital and resource allocation decisions using business cases and other ad-hoc analysis as required (e.g. classic financial analyses such as ROI and DCF/NPV)

  • In addition to business partnering responsibilities you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant accounting policies and the ongoing transformation of Revenue Assurance activities and billing system integrations. Revenue Assurance responsibilities include:

    o Continuous review of process and procedures to simplify where appropriate and/or to improve effectiveness. This will include partnering with making use of global/offshore teams (e.g. Business Operations) where available, transition or elimination of non-core activities, and automation of manual processes o Acting as the key expert on revenue recognition, policy and assurance, ensuring compliance with both Thomson Reuters policies/practices and support for the internal and external audit process. o Working across the organisation in order to fulfil Revenue Assurance and related activities including: Finance Operations, Commercial Policy, Sales, Tax, EBS and Legal as required o Support the integration of new businesses/products/systems into our standard working model.

  • Analyze and interpret financial information pertaining to the business performance and make recommendations concerning business policy, resource allocation, and business operations to improve our financial performance. You will alert the management team and other key executives to trends in the financial performance of various business lines that may require management action.

  • Develop and maintain your finance team, establishing standards for performance and giving appropriate direction. You will develop your team to ensure growth in the capabilities of the finance function and to support succession plans across the wider finance department. You will help to steer the overall strategy and culture of the business as a senior member of finance community in ANZ.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Recognized accountancy qualification or equivalent with extensive experience in equivalent Finance roles. Thomson Reuters Sales & Revenue experience would be an advantage.
  • Proven ability to interact with senior management and influence outcomes
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and their application;
  • Experience thinking strategically and building business development plans.
  • Tenacious and driven by delivering results.
