Job summary

The Red Hat Services team is looking for a Project Manager to join us in North Sydney, Australia. In this role, you will manage projects from initiation through delivery to closure. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to bring distinct, specific projects to completion both on time and within budget. We'll need you to have a good understanding of industry-standard project management practices and learn Red Hat policies and procedures. You'll interact with all levels of Red Hat and customer management teams, so you will need great communication and interpersonal skills. As a Project Manager, you will evaluate identifiable factors and demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions and you'll serve as an advocate for the adoption of project management fundamentals, principles, and methodologies with the Red Hat Services team.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Manage project planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting activities for Red Hat Services projects

  • Control project requirements, scope, and change management issues

  • Determine, monitor, and review all project costs, operational budgets, staffing requirements, resources, and risks

  • Ensure adherence to legally binding requirements

  • Facilitate development of recommended project control solutions to be used for planning, scheduling, and tracking projects through integration of various project management tools

  • Work with management on project proposals, bids, contracts, estimates, and schedules and contribute to project estimation process

  • Plan, schedule, monitor, and report on activities related to projects, including subcontractor monitoring

  • Establish appropriate metrics for measuring key project criteria

  • Develop project control and reporting procedures and manage changes in operational plans

  • Undertake status review meetings among project team members and customers

  • Integrate and use specific industry project management and technical delivery methodologies, e.g., methodologies based on Project Management Institute (PMI), Red Hat Services project management methodology, system and software development, and product development

  • Assist in training of the project team on the application of appropriate procedures and processes; coach and advise team members to accomplish project goals, meet established schedules, and resolve technical and operational issues

  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies and project management techniques

Required skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a project manager managing IT-based projects

  • PMI or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent

  • Proven record of successfully managing complex projects

  • Experience establishing and contributing to process improvements

  • Experience dealing with complex projects and multicultural and multidisciplinary teams

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, management skills, and business judgment

  • Ability to work effectively across a widely diverse management team, as well as a broad spectrum of internal partners

  • Detail-oriented and able to work in a very fast-paced environment and manage time effectively

  • Good balance of business and technical background and experience

  • Ability to explain the project management value proposition and be an ambassador for project management techniques and the Red Hat Services project management methodology

  • Experience with scrum or agile methodologies

  • Willingness to travel up to 25%
