Solutions Engineers are experienced sales engineering professionals, adept at defining solutions that meet the business and technical requirements of existing and prospective Akamai customers.

A Solutions Engineer typically has 5+ years of technical pre-sales experience, is self directed, capable of leading technical sales activities, managing the customer technical relationship, ensuring delivery of products, projects and services, and assuming subject matter expert responsibilities within Akamai.

About the Team:

Solutions Engineering within the Carrier Products division of Akamai is the technical side of the field sales team, a world class organization and strives to provide the “right” solution to our customers and prospect, and ensure delivery of our products, and services to our customer base.

Our team is focused on developing our technical partnerships with major Carriers for products and services to provide:

• Media Delivery over dedicated CDN infrastructure,


• New and emerging products within our portfolio

• Akamai traditional products for Web and Security

Our Solutions Engineers possess the highest levels of business and technical acumen - understanding customer business drivers, matching those to Akamai's technologies, and clearly articulating complex solutions to prospective clients, and ensuring delivery of the products and services over the project lifecyle.


• Drive revenues by managing the pre-sales technical process and evangelizing Akamai's technology to existing and prospective customers, and to drive new product and service offerings.

•Work closely with direct sales to educate existing and prospective customers about the superiority of Akamai's services - this includes conference calls, site visits, presentations, technical evaluations, technical objection handling, proposals, drive our response to RFQ/RFP/RFI and follow up on all customer related issues.

•For licensed products, support long term Carrier trial, testing and evaluation cycles.

•For managed products and services, provide technical, project and planning inputs ensure delivery and development of the products and services.

•Across all projects, take high level objectives and requirements and translate them into project delivery and execution plans

•Facilitate communication among external stakeholders and disparate team members within Akamai to ensure that everyone on the project has a common understanding around goals, objectives, and success criteria.

•Work closely with Product Management and R&D to develop future product direction and strategy - providing valuable input from "the field."

•Work within our SE team as part of the customer proposal process and ensure that all technical information and recommendations addressing customer requirements are properly defined.

•Work closely with our Digital Media sales and Network divisions to ensure optimal delivery of Media traffic across dedicated CDN infrastructure and the Akamai Intelligent Platform.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, other technical or management discipline, or related technical field or equivalent experience.

Minimum of 5 years experience working in any of the following industries: telecom services; internet services; datacenter services; development of networking or telecom equipment.

Strong background in Internet Technologies, such as HTTP, DNS, Web Servers

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills appropriate to both technical and management clients

A hands on, innvoative and flexible approach to solution on technical issues as part of customer testing and evaluation processes.

Creative and tolerant of uncertainty.

Able to work in a fast-paced environment both as an individual contributor and driving results across a cross-functional team.

Must be action oriented, capable of independently solving complex technical problems; able to communicate clearly and effectively to both technical and business audiences.

Must be willing to travel to approximately 20%

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of HTTP Streaming technologies ( DASH, HLS, MSS etc. )

Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills appropriate to both technical and management level clients and/or partners.

Organization and planning ability.

A spirit of investigation

Enjoys the challenge of complicated problems, determining the solution set, and ordering & prioritizing the associated tasks to solve the problem.

Technical agility

Ability to grasp new technical concepts quickly.
