The Chevron-operated Wheatstone Project is one of Australia’s largest resource projects. Located at Ashburton North, 12 kilometres west of Onslow in Western Australia, the project will consist of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum and a domestic gas plant.

Role Description:

The Commissioning Superintendent is responsible for startup and operations of Plant systems after the Ready for Startup certificate has been issued, as well as support of the back end commissioning processes being executed by the CSU team that lead into startup. The Commissioning superintendent is a shift position (day/night) that involves providing day to day direction to the startup and operations shift team (operators) for the portions of the Plant under his/her remit, and works side by side with the Phase 5 Production and Startup Superintendents to manage project, operational and production goals, including providing operational support and expertise. The Bechtel Operations Manager reports to and takes day to day direction from the Commissioning Operations Manager, to plan the initial operations of systems to support the completion of the project and convert the strategic management plan into shift plans to achieve Project and operational goals through performance test and handover of the facility.

Responsibilities include:

  • Active leadership in the Zero Accident Plus (ZAP) program; ensuring both process safety and personal safety, as well as ensuring the highest environmental and health standards on the Jobsite

  • Active leadership in the Quality program (including work not performed by CSU). Target zero punchlists to avoid downstream impacts

  • Day to day direction of the Client Operations shift; converting strategic plans to tactical plans to be executed by the operational team.

  • Resolves technical issues that arise through startup and initial operations through CSU technical resources.

  • Coordinates the technical input and support of the ConocoPhillips Licensing team on-site, including supporting commissioning and operations teams

  • Support/management of the Performance Test Lead for performance testing and demonstration testing, including planning all tests to conform with the requirement of the Prime contract Exhibit L

  • Coordinate with the Phase 5 laboratory team to provide project support for commissioning, initial operations, and performance testing

  • Coordinate any operational issues that may require project support, such as the provision of ICSS Engineers for tuning and configuration/graphics changes required

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15-20 years work experience in Commissioning, startup and operations fields, specifically all aspects of field and control room operation, shift supervision, and development of operational philosophies and processes to ensure safe, and reliable Plant operations

Additional Information:

  • Prior experience with Bechtel CSU processes and procedures preferred.

  • Knowledge of processes and work task involved with large scale gas processing facilities. Knowledge of LNG and specifically the Optimized Cascade Process is desirable.

  • Has planned and directed commissioning and startup/operations assignments on at least 3-5 project(s).

  • Ability to make day-to-day decisions that directly affect project management improvements within assigned area or project and makes recommendations to senior management regarding policy and procedure.

  • Good knowledge & experience of testing, commissioning, start-up, operation & turnover practices.

  • Good knowledge & experience in PTW, STARRT, JHA, LOTO procedures & practices.

  • Good leadership skills & able to supervise craft for testing, startup and operations activity.
