Earth Sciences Vacation Employment Program

Chevron Australia is inviting geology or geophysics students with a keen interest in the oil and gas industry to apply for a 12-week vacation employment placement within our Perth office.

Earth science is the foundation of the oil and gas industry and your expertise as a Geologist or Geophysicist is essential to unlocking the earth’s vital stores of energy.

As part of the vacation program you will be working on real geology and geophysics projects with the opportunity to apply sophisticated technology and critical thinking to Chevron’s Australian operations.

As the largest natural gas resource holder in Australia, you will be exposed to world-class oil and gas discoveries and exploration programs operated by Chevron in Australia and New Zealand, which include the Gorgon, Jansz, and Wheatstone fields and around 50 trillion cubic feet of discovered gas resources.

Throughout your placement you will be embedded within Subsurface teams’ comprising of Geologists, Geophysicists and Engineers and will be exposed to the day-to-day opportunities and challenges associated with oil and gas exploration and production.

You will become familiar with the technical work, business processes, technologies and company culture that are all integral to running a successful exploration and production business.

Following completion of the 12-week program, vacation students who consistently perform above expectations may be considered for full time graduate positions upon graduation from their studies, where roles are available.

Who We Are Looking For

Applicants will be:

  • In their penultimate or final years of a geology or geophysics undergraduate, Honours, Masters or PhD degree

  • Performing at a consistently high academic standard

  • Excellent communicators with strong analytical skills and a focus on teamwork

  • Committed to Chevron’s values of trust, partnership and integrity and achieving an incident and injury free environment

  • Available for the specified duration of employment from 27 November 2017 until 16 February 2018

  • Eligible to legally work and live in Australia permanently

The following requirements are not compulsory but will be highly regarded:

  • Work experience in related and non-related areas will be held in high regard as will demonstrated involvement in extracurricular and community/volunteer activities
