About the role

Offered on a fixed term 12 month contract the position of Specialist / Principal Indigenous Employment will form part of a strategic team supporting our Indigenous Employment activities as part of the BHP’s efforts to build a more inclusive and diverse workforce. Broad goals will include the attraction, development and inclusion of new and existing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.

In this role you will:

  • Support the delivery of the company’s positioning and national approach to Indigenous employment across Minerals Australia, in line with the BHP Reconciliation Action Plan (2017 – 2020)

  • Support the execution of the IE (Indigenous Employment) Plan across Minerals Australia

  • Build Human Resources functional capability to execute the IE plan through building capability and improvement systems and processes;

  • Support, influence and advise BHP leaders on regional and local Indigenous employment matters;

  • Provide strategic advice on IE matters for Australia, especially where an Indigenous perspective is required

  • Partner with BHP Corporate Affairs and Community and Indigenous Affairs teams in the execution of the Social Investment Strategy and education to employment pipeline

  • Lead the execution of the Indigenous Development Program and School Based Traineeships

  • Build and maintains relationships with key Indigenous stakeholders, including traditional owner groups and Indigenous communities

  • Support the delivery of inclusion initiatives, such as NAIDOC week.

About you:

  • You will be self-motivated and driven to succeed

  • Strong influencing and communication skills and able to drive outcomes associated with the IE Plan

  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team

  • Experienced dealing with Indigenous Employment issues, preferably in mining or comparable industry

  • Experience in the development and execution of projects/programs

  • Understand and have experience with management of change process

  • Strategic thinking and approach to IE matters

  • Experience in the Indigenous HR/Recruitment industry is highly desirable
