Electrical Designer


Jacobs is the lead contractor providing EPCM services for the Oyu Tolgoi Underground Project in Mongolia. This contract scope includes surface and underground infrastructure works and will see us leading the way for over 6 years to deliver this project successfully and safely.

We are currently seeking a highly experienced and hands on 2D AutoCAD designer.

Based in our South Brisbane, QLD office, the project team requires a self-driven, organised, methodical Electrical Designer. The duration of the role will be for approximately 6 months.

Preference will be given to experienced locally based contractors. There is no planned travel requirement for to Mongolia or our other project offices, however given this is a global project spanning several countries, there may be an opportunity to travel.

Knowledge and responsibilities include:

  • To provide Electrical Design (2D AutoCAD) expertise as required

  • To provide a high level of demonstrated experience in design management within a technical engineering environment

  • Be thoroughly conversant with codes, client and project specific specifications, procedures, vendor data, general arrangements and other requirements

  • Ensure that Jacobs systems and standards are implemented effectively on projects

  • Assist with co-ordination of a project engineering and design team and resolve electrical design issues

  • Identify improvements to design, procedures, proposals and work practices that improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the group and communicate to the Lead Engineer and Designer

  • Identify hazards and controls in consultation with discipline team members

  • Participate in meetings related to planning, quality, safety and other technical matters as determined by the Lead Engineer

  • Understanding project manager and client expectations and possess a high level of skill in managing these relationships

  • To develop solutions to complex engineering problems that meets or exceeds client requirements

  • To ensure that all project team employees have requisite competencies to undertake assigned tasks

Experience in a similar role working on a major EPCM project will be key to success in this role.
