MAIN JOB PURPOSE:

Innovations are a key part of Unilever strategy to win in the marketplace with Customers and Consumers alike. Innovations account for circa 20% of Unilever ANZ Turnover. Finance Excellence plays a key role in building Business cases, measuring and tracking performance of innovations in market.

The Commercial Analyst - Innovation will be responsible for preparing cross business cases for all categories, Innovation Performance management & tracking, conducting Post Launch Evaluations (PLEs) & presenting key learnings and continuous improvement on the Innovation Process Management (IPM) process including optimising the business case preparation process.

JOB SUMMARY

Business Partnering

  • Act as Finance contact for the IPM process.

  • Liaise with Country Category Business Teams (CCBT) and prepare Innovation Business Cases (BC) across all categories and provide recommendations to Finance Business Partner Innovation on the Innovation Business Cases.

  • Lead cross category training on Business case best practice and improve the financial acumen of key non-Finance business partners.

  • Assist Finance Business Partners with Innovation Big Bets Annual Planning and work with BMI & ROMI analyst on the Brand Marketing Planning (BMP) process, with a specific focus on Innovations.

Reporting/ Process

  • Drive Continuous Improvement on the IPM process by evaluating and simplifying the BC preparation process and implementing a consistent approach across categories.

  • Provide a framework for Finance BC preparation, including recommendations on key BC inputs (Foreign Exchange, Supply Chain Costs, Brand & Marketing Investment, Business Waste assumptions etc).

  • Work with GTM Finance to identify and implement Business Case preparation best practice and improve rigour of BC preparation.

  • Own and streamline Innovation tracking by working with Management Accounting to improve/ develop the Innovation Dashboard, to allow efficient Post Launch tracking of key innovations.

  • Review Hurdle rates and recommend a way forward that aligns local and regional requirements in light of categories strategies.

  • Develop a robust methodology to establish cannibalisation, fade and do nothing scenarios.

Insights & Analytics

  • Review Business Case accuracy and conduct PLEs to draw key insights and learnings to be built into a Category learnings dashboard.

  • Drive key insights/ learnings & escalation recommendations based on innovation performance/ PLE and present to the Innovation Board (IB) (both IB and UALT for Gold projects).

  • Liaising with Competitor Intelligence team to identify competitor NPD launch risks and working with BB to monitor key competitor innovations.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated experience as a Commercial Analyst, ideally with an FMCG background

  • Proven experience as a Finance Business Partner

  • Experience in working with and influencing financial and non-financial stakeholders, including key senior managers and directors

  • You have a strong commercial acumen and problem solving skillset

  • You have excellent planning and organization skills – an ability to manage competing priorities

  • You can work autonomously

  • A background in grocery channels will be highly regarded

  • Ideally degree qualified and have CPA,CA, CIMA or similar business qualifications
