Amazon.com Corporate Counsel, AWS Australia in Sydney, Australia
Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented commercial transaction lawyer based in Sydney to support Amazon Web Services, a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. Amazon Web Services is at the forefront of the "cloud" computing and service industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, and more.
This Corporate Counsel will primarily support AWS's Australian and APAC business development and marketing teams, and will report into the APAC regional counsel in Singapore. The successful candidate will act on a variety of legal matters, and advise senior management and other business team members on contracts, marketing activities and local legal, regulatory and compliance requirements. Responsibilities will include reviewing, drafting and supporting negotiations for commercial and IT service agreements, marketing and sponsorship agreements, and high value or strategic agreements with enterprise customers and partners. The role includes participating in other Amazon.com legal projects as directed, including managing legal issues that arise in existing commercial relationships and handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. Compensation is competitive and includes equity compensation.
Admitted to practice in Australia or another common law country, or sound knowledge of relevant Australian and regional laws.
5+ years post-admission experience; more experienced candidates should still apply
Transactional drafting and negotiation experience, gained at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational corporation.
In house experience at a technology company or in a private practice technology group
Familiarity with IT/technology licensing, outsourcing and services agreements
Understanding of intellectual property, competition and privacy issues
A background in software licensing (including open source), web services/cloud computing or telecommunications is a plus
Experience with complex procurement processes is also valuable
