PROJECT OVERVIEW:

An immediate opportunity exists, within our Mining and Metals business unit to be part of the exciting Rio Tinto Amrun Bauxite project, in far north Queensland.

The Amrun Project encompasses the engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) of a range of infrastructure required to support a new bauxite mine on part of Rio Tinto’s existing lease, south of the Embley River, between Weipa and Aurukun on the Western Cape York Peninsular. This includes the construction of a bauxite mine, accommodation, processing plant, dam, tailings storage facility, roads, export wharf, and ferry terminals to transport the workforce from Weipa to the mine. At the request of Traditional Owners, the project is known as Amrun—the Wik‑Waya name for the area.

The Home Office team will be based in the Brisbane CBD, supported by the New Delhi Execution Unit. The Field Office team will be located at the job site with camp accommodation provided and a FIFO work roster.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Electrical Field Engineer reports to the Lead Electrical Field Engineer and Project Field Engineer and is responsible for providing technical support for electrical construction activities for temporary and permanent plant infrastructure of the mine.

This will involve interaction with Engineering, Contracts, Procurement and Construction Supervision functions as well as working with Construction Contractors to meet project requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

The Electrical Field Engineer, under supervision, undertakes activities relating to construction engineering within the electrical discipline. Duties include interpreting design drawings and specifications for execution of electrical works. This position is not considered the design authority for the project, but only to enforce construction per design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all installations are per latest revisions of issued for construction (IFC) design drawings, specifications, standards and codes

  • Ensuring the correct implementation of Contractor’s developed Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) for each major electrical activity

  • Providing technical direction and support to the Superintendent and Contractors.

  • Progressively perform inspections and initiate associated documentation for all electrical system installations.

  • Providing support to the quantity tracking applications and reporting (QURR) on weekly installed quantities from Contractors to Project Controls for all electrical commodities

  • Interpret design drawings and interface with engineering office to resolve design and constructability issue.

  • Prepare or review field change documents (FCD) submitted by the Contractors.

  • Assist electrical superintendents and Contractors in constructability and quality issues.

  • Review installation work packages for scopes of work in support of the construction schedule

  • Prepare field material requisitions (FMR), coordinate and review vendor drawings.

  • Work with Procurement's expediting team to ensure the delivery of vendor materials to support the projects schedule.

  • Work with the suppliers to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications

  • Assure that materials are stored properly to ensure environmental protection.

  • Assisting field procurement in material receive report (MRR) and unsatisfactory, over, short and defect (UOS&D) report as needed.

  • Act as point of contact for coordination and resolution of all technical issues related to select Contractors on site who provide technical services for the execution of the permanent plant electrical systems scope of work, including initiating all formal contract variation to support the contract administrator.

  • Completing final system walk-downs, punch-list tracking and close-out

  • Ensuring as-built documentation submitted by Contractor is accurate

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

  • Good understanding of AS3000.

  • 5 years’ minimum experience in electrical field engineering or relevant.

  • Experience in EPCM environment (subcontract management using both lump sum and cost-reimbursable remuneration).

  • Experience in mining construction in Queensland is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Primary Skills:

  • Good leadership skills.

  • Strong problem solving skills.

  • Good knowledge & experience in the interface between Field Engineering and other functions within a project group (e.g. Contracts, Project Control and Procurement).

  • Expert in SETROUTE.

  • Strong knowledge & experience in BSAPs (e.g. InfoWorks, TEAMWorks and PTR).

  • Good knowledge & experience in using BPS as well as FMR process.

  • Good knowledge & experience of building communication towers/ infrastructure.

  • Good knowledge & experience of building temporary construction facilities.

  • Good knowledge of building construction camp and infrastructure (e.g. WTP, STP, Power Station, etc).

  • Familiarity in marine works and cathodic protection.

  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge & experience in STARRT, JHA, LOTO procedures, Access to HV & practices.

  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.

Communication Skills:

  • Good oral and written communications skills.

  • Must be able to effectively interface with others.

  • Must handle people and issues with a professional demeanour.

Task Management:

  • Must be able to track tasks and complete assignments on schedule.

  • Must understand the required result of construction testing, pay close attention to details of test, thoroughly.
