PROJECT OVERVIEW:

An immediate opportunity exists, within our Mining and Metals business unit to be part of the exciting Rio Tinto Amrun Bauxite project, in far north Queensland.

The Amrun Project encompasses the engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) of a range of infrastructure required to support a new bauxite mine on part of Rio Tinto’s existing lease, south of the Embley River, between Weipa and Aurukun on the Western Cape York Peninsular. This includes the construction of a bauxite mine, accommodation, processing plant, dam, tailings storage facility, roads, export wharf, and ferry terminals to transport the workforce from Weipa to the mine. At the request of Traditional Owners, the project is known as Amrun—the Wik‑Waya name for the area.

The Home Office team will be based in the Brisbane CBD, supported by the New Delhi Execution Unit. The Field Office team will be located at the job site with camp accommodation provided and a FIFO work roster.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of this role is to support a Bechtel standard Project automation environment, including deskide computing and peripherals, office automation applications and related services, on the Amrun Project. The role reports to the Site IS&T Lead.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Works with the Project IS&T team (both in Brisbane and at the jobsite) to deploy, support and maintain project infrastructure and applications to meet project execution requirements, including computing equipment, hardware peripherals, standard office automation applications and Bechtel BSAPs

  • Provide an active, hands-on support service across all jobsite offices

  • Ensure deskside support adherence to a disciplined approach in applying established Bechtel standards, procedures and methods to provide the following within the jobsite locations:

  • Coordinate with Site IS&T Lead and IS&T global peers to ensure a standard, consistent, robust environment is maintained and supported

  • Data networks coordinate with Site IS&T Lead for office setup, network cabling, wireless network deployment, equipment and network troubleshooting, patching, support and support escalation

  • Computing environment Bechtel standard imaging, installation, support (local and remote), maintenance and upgrades for desktops, laptops, tablets, mobile communication devices, peripherals and standard software packages, etc.

  • Telecommunications and miscellaneous systems as applicable provide hands-on support telephony, mobile phones, MFDs, videoconferencing, etc.

  • Ensure any project-specific system implementation, configuration, maintenance and support procedures are documented and understood by both project and corporate IS&T support teams

  • Utilize Bechtel standard systems for service center, change management, asset tracking, etc.

  • Respond to customers’ needs, questions and concerns in an accurate, effective and timely manner and expedites corrective actions, while documenting lessons learned

  • Work as an integral part of the Project team and the broader Bechtel IS&T community (comprising of both on-project and off-project technical professionals)

  • Provide regular and timely feedback to the Site IS&T Lead regarding deskside performance, IS&T activities, issue resolution, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Sound working knowledge of Bechtel IS&T infrastructure standards and information security

  • 5+ years hands-on experience within a Windows desktop environment

  • 5+ years Engineering & Construction industry and remote support experience highly desirable

  • Sound communication skills oral/active listening and written communications skills are critical to the role

  • Ability to handle multiple customer interactions in an accurate, effective and timely manner

  • Ability to articulate ideas, gain consensus through influence and write clear and concise documentation

  • Strong aptitude for automation and eager to learn

  • Strong analytical skills to identify problems and work with a virtual team to determine, develop and implement solutions

  • Strong interpersonal skills to provide end user support and maintain Bechtel standards

  • Ability to prioritize and flexibility to multi-task in a fluid environment

  • Academic qualification (post-secondary diploma, university degree or equivalent) in the area of Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, 5+ years of relevant IS&T experience.

  • CCNA/MCSE/MCP qualifications are highly regarded
