About the role

BHP Iron Ore is one of the world's leading suppliers of iron ore. The Company's operations currently involve an integrated system of seven inland mines, more than 1,000 kilometres of rail and two separate port facilities; Nelson Point and Finucane Island at Port Hedland as part of our Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO) business. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Construction Supervisor within the South Flank PCF project for a 12 Month Fixed term role. The role is committed to spending the majority of the time in the field monitoring, supervising and influencing work activities

Reporting to the Superintendent Construction, within the Projects team your duties will include:

  • Demonstrate leadership and instil an overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development

  • Acting as the enabler on behalf of the company to ensure internal and externally contracted services providers are able to perform sustainably at optimal levels of efficiency, whilst adhering to BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations;

  • Day-to-day on-site supervision of contractor and sub-contractor groups to ensure that design, technical, and quality standards are achieved safely, on time (schedule) and within budget;

  • Inspecting and verifying that relevant Catastrophic Risk Management Critical Controls are implemented and effective in the field;

  • Ensuring compliance to the Contractor Management Framework on all projects by implementing and adhering to the Contract Representative/Contract User requirements outlined in the framework;

  • Continuously monitoring schedule and reviewing work methods to improve efficiency and productivity in the workplace;

  • Ensure Contractor compliance with the Quality Management Plan and HSEC Procedures implementation;

  • Perform the quality assurance and control role where required;

  • Fulfil the role of Site Responsible Personand Appointed Sec44;

  • Participate in the commissioning process by assisting in the timely troubleshooting and resolution of problems

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Post-trade qualification in construction related discipline preferred;

  • 5+ years experience in the construction / heavy engineering / mining sectors with proven experience in the administration and supervision of contracts and contractors;

  • Demonstrated field leadership experience;

  • Advanced troubleshooting and problem solving skills;

  • Ability to identify and mitigate key project risks;

  • Ability to interpret technical documents and drawings and apply timely practical solutions

  • Excellent communication, influencing and negotiating skills with the ability to build credibility and trust across all levels with internal and external stakeholders;

  • Sound interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills; and

  • A Minimum of C class manual drivers licence is a requirement for this role.


You will be based at our ‘Area C’ mine site on a fly-in fly-out 14 days on 7days off roster. Our Area C mine is located approximately 100kms North West of Newman, West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, swimming pool, netted cricket pitch, tennis and basketball court, beach volleyball court and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
