Hygiene Technician – Northern Operations

  • Permanent role with a great FIFO Roster of 5 days on, 3 days off, 4 days on, 2 days off

  • Diverse exposure to hygiene monitoring and exposure risk management in both surface and underground mining and processing environments

  • Based at the Mt Keith and Cliffs operations – 1 hour from Perth

Job Description

Reporting to the Superintendent Health, Safety and Environment Execution - Northern Operations, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting CONTAM sampling and personal exposure monitoring (airborne contaminants, noise) as per the site risk based monitoring plan.

  • Execute the potable water sampling program

  • Execute the duties of the Ventilation Officer (Mine Safety Inspection Regulations, Part 9) as appointed Surface Ventilation Officer for Mt Keith

  • Supporting internal and external reporting processes for hygiene exposures.

  • Conducting PPE fit testing and training (hearing and respiratory PPE)

  • Entering monitoring results into the occupational hygiene database (Medgate) or other databases as required.

  • Prepare and submit employee exposure monitoring reports (e.g. employee feedback letters)

  • Prepare quarterly Department of Minerals & Petroleum (DMP) CONTAM reports

  • Manage occupational health and hygiene equipment (e.g. maintenance, calibrations)

  • Provide coaching and support to the Operations to manage occupational exposure risk

Skills and Requirements

We anticipate that you will be a suitably qualified hygiene professional, possessing relevant experience in a similar role at a remote location within the mining and resources industry.

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • Dept of Mines and Petroleum Noise Officer approval

  • Certificate IV in Surface Ventilation Technician

  • AIOH Basic Principles of Occupational Hygiene (desirable)

  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage regular commitments and priorities as well as the ad hoc demands that occur in a fast paced environment are essential for this position

  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work behaviours and ability to work independently, as a sole-practitioner

Additional qualifications and skills in mine site Environment management will be highly regarded.
