Reporting to the Senior Area Coordinator, within the Execution Maintenance team your duties will include:

  • Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations

  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development

  • Ensuring that all work is performed safely in accordance with BHP Billiton a Zero Harm policies and procedures

  • Provide technical support to Nelson Point Mechanical Maintenance Department

  • Develop and improve cost effective short and long term maintenance strategies

  • Provide assistance in strategic planning, failure analysis, equipment performance reviews and maintenance improvements

  • Perform internal quality assurance audits

  • Identify and administer Continuous Improvement principles to optimise equipment efficiency and reliability

  • Provide mechanical engineering solutions in conjunction with OEM’s when required

  • Liaise with maintenance planning in the generation of long term maintenance plans for mechanical areas of responsibility

  • Write, review and update work procedures, inspection sheets and quality assurance documents

  • Administration, maintenance and auditing of technical document management system

  • Receipt, registration, distribution and storage of technical information

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

  • Mechanical trade qualification

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft applications

  • 1SAP Use and capability

  • Effective communication skills

  • Proven ability to communicate plans clearly and concisely

  • Excellent people management skills

  • Extensive experience working within heavy industry/mining is essential

  • Minimum of C class manual drivers licence


In this residential role, you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park.Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife. Within driving distance are thespectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park.As this is a residential position, you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
