Reporting to the Senior Area Coordinator, within the Execution Maintenance team your duties will include:

• Ensure conformance with the BHP Billiton Charter, the BHP Billiton Group Level Documents, Code of Conduct and relevant statutory obligations

• An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment responsibility and sustainable development

• Ensuring that all work is performed safely in accordance with BHP Billiton a Zero Harm policies and procedures

• Ensuring the quality execution of maintenance work as per plan and schedule to minimise the impact on equipment availability

• Provide technical support to Nelson Point Mechanical Maintenance Department

• Develop and improve cost effective short and long term maintenance strategies

• Provide assistance in strategic planning, failure analysis, equipment performance reviews and maintenance improvements

• Perform internal quality assurance audits

• Identify and administer Continuous Improvement principles to optimise equipment efficiency and reliability

• Provide mechanical engineering solutions in conjunction with OEM’s when required

• Liaise with Maintenance Planning and Maintenance A&I in defining the work sequencing and dependencies

• Proactively identifies , prevents and eliminates the introduction of defects through maintenance works

• Write, review and update work procedures, inspection sheets and quality assurance documents

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate, you will possess the following:

• Mechanical Engineering qualification at Trade, Diploma or Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering discipline

• 5 or more years in a meaningful, task - ownership role

• Experience in improving the operating performance of ore handling systems including car dumper, stacker, reclaimer and screening operations

• Significant technical proficiency across design, installation, commissioning, operation

• Supervisory experience would be advantageous

• Strong analytical problem solving skills, demonstrating a capacity to identify root cause and corrective actions

• Able to scope , negotiate, engage and execute contractor delivered work

• Ability to quickly and constructively work across disciplines, as well as various departments and teams

• Computer literacy with Microsoft suite and planning systems (SAP desirable)

• Minimum of C class manual drivers licence


In this residential role, you will be based in the coastal town of Port Hedland, Western Australia on a Monday to Friday roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The 20,000-strong population enjoys well-established education services, entertainment, shopping and medical facilities.

The excellent sporting and leisure facilities include; a new aquatic centre, sports stadium and water play park. Its beaches and mangroves are home to an abundance of fish and other wildlife. Within driving distance are the spectacular Broome, Karratha and Karijini national Park. As this is a residential position, you will also be provided with subsidised rental accommodation in addition to power and water subsidies.
