About the Opportunity

The Technology Infrastructure Services is responsible for maintaining the operating integrity of BHP’s Enterprise & Production IT Hosting systems. These systems are tightly integrated with the processes that support the production, logistics and key business functions of the business.

The Technical Engineer (Infrastructure) provides consultation, translates sets of technical and business requirements into designs and strategies in order to deliver value to the business via new functionality, increased service levels and technical innovation.

Reporting to the Project Engineering Lead within the Technology team, you will develop, operate and maintain BHP’s IT infrastructure as well as our 2-year strategy & roadmap with a focus on value-add (automation, efficiency, and MTBF). You will develop and maintain standards, builds, and lifecycle for hardware, operating systems, firmware and system software and operate all tools for monitoring, management, software deployment, automation, and orchestration. As the technical SME (Subject Matter Expert) you will support projects executed by Infrastructure Projects, perform hardware asset management for all devices in Infrastructure Services and execute all Service Management processes within Infrastructure Services (e.g. incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.) The SME will also support teams to resolve priority issues, implement complex changes, guide and coach Technology Technicians and provide back-up coverage to the Lead during times of absence.

About you


  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent IT/OT experience

  • ITIL Certification preferred but not essential


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to prioritise effectively and ensure effective execution of tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships at all levels.

  • Highly logical thinker, with good analytical problem-solving skills and understanding root causes.

  • Senior role in leading teams in resolving complex problems.

  • A multi-tasking team player who can also work in a stand-alone capacity.


  • Previous experience in managinginfrastructure and hosting technologywithin an enterprise environment.

  • Previous experience in operational support of mission critical services in large-scale environments, preferably mining/resources.

  • Previous automation and/or orchestration experience highly desirable.

  • At least 5 years relevant post-qualification experience inoneor more of the following technologies:

  • VMWare ESX, vCentre, SRM, vRealise Suite

  • Cisco UCS, B-Series blades and UCS Manager

  • HP Proliant & BladeCenter Servers

  • NetApp & EMC storage with backup technologies

  • Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux & Solaris

  • Citrix XenServer & Xen Desktop

  • Citrix NetScaler Application Delivery Controllers

  • Microsoft SCOM & SCCM

  • Splunk IT Operations

  • Cisco MDS and exposure to Cisco Nexus
