Reporting to the Track Machines Operations Supervisor, your duties as a Track Machines Operator will include:

  • Competently operate a variety of Plasser Track Machines including Ballast Regulators, Production Tampers and Switch Tampers on all BHP Billiton Iron Ore Pilbara lines consistent with Operating Rules, Regulations and Safe Work Procedures Applicable

  • Requirement to be familiar and coherent in knowledge and application of all Safeworking rules, procedures and protection requirements

  • Knowledge of track geometry, recognition of top and line defects and how to use given machinery to correct it

  • Addressing the demand for track time to correct track geometry faults and maintain safe track. Maximising work windows and not holding up passage of trains

  • Comprehensive knowledge of railway network including locations of sidings, signals and road crossings

  • Operating of ancillary equipment of various types, including lifting equipment

  • Attend safety meetings

  • Undertake all inspections of Track Machines, mobile plant, maintenance tools and equipment

  • Actively participate in the planning process, job allocation, interface with other team members and departments, and reviews and analysis of performance against planned work

Skills and Experience

As the successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Completion of upper secondary education is desirable, successful completion of lower secondary education or prior learning in the position of Track Machine Operator shall be a pre-requisite

  • Must hold a current “MR” and “A” class motor vehicle driver’s license

  • Speak, read and write the English language competently (as per the current Mines Safety & Inspections Regulations 1995, section 15.7.2)

  • Computer Literacy to use the following systems – GSAP, MS Excel & Word

  • Mines Safety & Inspections Regulations 1995 and the Mines Safety and Inspections Act Regulations 1994 and AS4292 Requirements

  • Safe Working Procedures

  • Sound knowledge of Track Machines or Track Maintenance

  • Familiarisation of Pilbara District Railroad Operating Procedures

  • Familiarisation of Radio Operating Procedures

This role is offered on a Residential or FIFO basis on a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off days only roster.
