DNV GL Measurement Engineer in Melbourne, Australia
The role is within the Advisory Section of Business Area Energy and comprises the delivery of Measurement Services to Advisory customers in Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands and South East Asia.
The Australian Advisory team consists of approximately 40 staff located in offices in Melbourne. It is part of the Asia-Pacific Advisory team which also has principal offices in Shanghai, Bangalore, Singapore and further offices in Bangkok, Seoul, Jakarta and Tokyo.
The main activities of the role of Measurement Engineer are:
Plan, project manage, execute and report on all aspects of Power Performance Measurement of wind turbines, in accordance with IEC 61400-12 Standards.
Undertake analysis of measured meteorological and turbine performance data in support of reporting power performance test results.
Support installation and commissioning of wind measurement equipment (mast or remote sensing devices such as LIDAR, SODAR) and solar measurements (solar monitoring stations) and associated measurement equipment on behalf of customers.
Specify, plan and project manage installation and operation of Solar Plant SCADA monitoring equipment in support of DNV GL’s Green Power Monitoring systems on behalf of customers.
Specify, plan and project manage installation and operation of other specialized measurements (e.g. load measurements, noise, etc.) on behalf of customers
Support delivery of “Resource Panorama” data management service to customers, including co-ordination of set-up, trouble-shoot comms and other issues, respond to customer requests and resolve technical issues.
Support analysis of wind farm performance data as required.
Develop reports to customers on outcomes of measurement projects and communicate the results.
Participate in development of measurement hardware setup and measurement software.
Support Head of Section - Measurements with preparation of proposals.
- Degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, etc. engineering. Electrical engineering preferred.
Knowledge, skills and experience required for the position are:
Experience in wind and/or solar measurements.
Experience of installing measurement equipment.
Experience with data analysis and reporting of wind, solar and turbine performance signals.
Familiarity with data logging and communications equipment to support the capture and transmission of measurement data from remote sites. Ability to troubleshoot as required.
Proficiency in MS Office programs (primarily Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), plus an aptitude for analysis of large amounts of measured data via custom analysis packages.
Demonstrated project management skills, including budget control, customer care, management of sub-contractors and progress against project milestones.
At least 3 years of experience in a similar position within the Energy Industry (Wind or Solar)
Understanding and following safety requirements for accessing and working on wind farm constructions sites, or remote green field sites domestically and internationally. Especially the safety issues / procedures for addressing HSE concerns surrounding mast and power performance installations.
Experience of the following would be an advantage:
Executing measurements or specialized tests on wind turbines and in particular the requirements of the IEC 61400 Standards.
Experience in other measurement services (acoustic noise, power quality, etc.).
Understanding of the characteristics of other measurement equipment of relevant to the wind and solar energy industries.
Experience of developing proposals for work, including budgets, appropriate contractual terms, and undertaking negotiations on scope and price with clients.
Data and communication protocols
Working knowledge of the renewable energy industry and project developers; construction knowledge is a plus
Knowledge of inspection services on wind turbines and/or solar plants is a plus.
Familiarity with data analysis packages used in the wind industry such as IMC Famos, WAsP, Matlab, Windfarmer etc.
Software developing skills
Wiring of measurement systems
Normal office environment, regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
Some domestic and international travel to other company office locations, site locations, client offices and conferences.
Occasional work outdoors in harsh conditions including but not limited to climbing stairs and ladders to ascend wind turbines or masts, traveling by car up to six hours and walking on uneven terrain.
Must be able to perform physical work in wind farms or solar plants. (Electrical works, occasional heavy lifting, etc.)
Must be able to work in confined spaces
Must be able to work in heights (up to 160m)
Valid driver’s license
