Product Development Technologist - 12 Month Contract

We are currently have a 12 month maternity leave contract available as a Product Development Technologist in our Savoury team, based in North Rocks. This is a 4 day per week role.

During this period, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing new products that meet marketing briefs to specified timelines, ensuring that all products comply with desired product quality, nutrition, cost, company policy and safety attributes – including product stability testing.

  • Contributing as a project team member, working closely and proactively building relationships with Technical Project Leader (TPL), Process Technologist, Packaging Technologist, Specifications team and taking ownership with business partners

  • Making recipe and cost improvements to existing products as well as maintaining existing products as required

  • Collecting, creating and maintaining technical data (e.g. formulation recipes, product information) required for specifications, labelling and other compliance requirements and ad-hoc support for consumer or customer enquiries.

  • Keeping abreast of relevant new technology and trends that may lead to a competitive advantage. Forging contacts with global teams and as required with suppliers, sister companies and academic institutions to help keep up to date with technology

  • Liaising with Material Experts and Procurement to identify approved Suppliers and obtain materials (conveying important ingredient requirements)

  • Maintaining high standards of hygiene and housekeeping in the test kitchen and laboratory.

You are:

Firstly, you are passionate about food, with an inquisitive mind that enjoys keeping up to date with new techniques, concepts and trends. A food science degree is our preference, as is experience in a similar position or with dry food technologies. You will be comfortable operating small scale kitchen equipment and quite happy to be hands on in the development process.

You are solutions driven with a positive mind-set to solve problems and anticipate issues before they arise. You will have sound technical skills including formulation calculations and be an excellent communicator, with an ability to establish, engage and influence relationships both at a local and global level both internally and externally. You are confident in the use of IT systems and programs such as email, excel, powerpoint and are able to quickly learn new systems.
