Gumtree is Australia's local marketplace, connecting buyers and sellers in the local community to buy, sell and find almost anything across hundreds of categories – including: Home & Garden, Cars, Jobs and more. There are more than 3 million listings across hundreds of categories and 85,000 new ads are listed each day.

As we continue to expand our footprint within the Cars category, an exciting opportunity has opened within the Gumtree Cars team. We’re looking for a National Sales Manager who loves cars as much as we do and who can take the Gumtree Cars proposition the next level in Australia.

Reporting directly to the COO/Head of Verticals, the National Sales Manager is pivotal role within the Gumtree Cars business and it’s more than a sales manager position. You will be the face of Gumtree Cars to our large dealer network. The ideal candidate will have previously worked with the car dealer community, have solid dealer relationships, an indepth understanding of the car marketplace in Australia and the ability to identify and translate challenges into business opportunities that provide benefit to your clients and to Gumtree. We are looking for someone who can identify win-win scenarios.

On a day to day basis you will accountable for delivering an 8 figure yearly subscription revenue line and manage a well established team, 6 BDMs (3 internal, 3 remote) who are focused on acquiring new car dealers. You’ll be backed up by an experienced team of account managers to ensure that our dealer community is receiving the best in class service from Gumtree.

The core responsibilities of the position include sales leadership, strategic planning, monetisation and relationship management. Wtihin this responsibiltes some of the key accountabilities such as but not limited to;

  • Actively lead anad manage the sales team to achieve desired outcomes

  • Create innovative strategies to progressively enhance the team’s sales efficiency and deliver business outcomes

  • Develop an overall sales strategy to maximise the market penetration and achieve sales targets

  • Identify new sales opportunities, prioritise them and develop initiatives to seize opportunitiy.

  • Develop and build a segmented client approach ensuring we align the right resource with the right opportunity

  • Establish strong internal partner relationships (Analytics, Product, Marketing, Development, and Sales)

  • Develop and manage relationships with partners and third-party providers

  • Develop and manage relationships with key clients, both directly and in conjunction with the BDMs

  • Maintain a firm grasp of the competitive landscape and identify areas of competitive differentiation


  • Strong sales leadership, ideally with automotive at the heart of your experience

  • 5+ years of sales management success;

  • Proven ability to develop high performing teams

  • Long term record of exceeding expectations and revenue targets

  • Demonstrated implementation of “best practise” salesforce effectiveness

  • Expert knowledge across digital advertising sales, B2B auto sales and/or car industry

  • Solid understanding of online advertising products and trends, and the strengths and weaknesses of each

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to ever-changing environments of global digital business

  • Strong communication skills across multiple platforms and audiences

  • Ability to deliver revenue objectives while balancing the right business and customer tradeoffs to deliver on best-in-class advertiser and user experience.

  • You’ve worked closely with product teams to monitor the commercial impact of product development

  • In-depth knowledge of statistics, analytics, financial terminologies, and budgeting practices
